Sarah is the Senior Research Fellow at Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Institute and is responsible for running the NSW/ACT CP Register. In 2016, Sarah began a NHMRC Early Career Fellowship at The University of Sydney (2016-2020).

Sarah has worked in the field of cerebral palsy research for 10 years. She is a perinatal and paediatric epidemiologist and her current work focuses on the aetiology and prevention of cerebral palsy and neonatal encephalopathy, with a particular emphasis on birth defects.

She is also a policy member of the Australian Cerebral Palsy Register group.

Sarah collaborated with colleagues throughout the world to establish the first international research network for cerebral palsy, IMPACT for CP which was launched in 2014.

Research interests

Aetiology and prevention of cerebral palsy and neonatal encephalopathy

Maximising the use of evidence based interventions for babies at high risk of cerebral palsy and people living with cerebral palsy

Significant Achievements

  • Instigating and co-chairing the first World CP Register Congress, the 3rd International CP Conference in Sydney (2009), Cure and Prevention Summits, San Francisco (2011) and Washington DC (2013)
  • Member of the Antenatal Magnesium Sulphate for Neuroprotection Clinical Guideline Panel
  • Member of the American Congress Obstetrics & Gynecology Taskforce Advisory group for Neonatal Encephalopathy and Neurological Outcomes
  • Instigated and completed the world’s first study of research priorities for cerebral from perspective of clients, clinicians and researchers
